The regional road network of the Sarajevo Canton includes all roads that are under the responsibility of the Road Directorate of the Sarajevo Canton (regional and certain main and local roads, which have been taken over for maintenance by agreement). First-class regional roads are intended for traffic connection of economic areas of the state or entities, significant centers of local communities, as well as for traffic connection with roads of the same or higher category. Specially constructed connections, if provided, form their integral part of the road network in the Sarajevo Canton. Second-class regional roads are intended for traffic connection of centers of local communities within a certain entity, for connection of tourist (tourist roads) and border areas of importance for the state, and for connection of border crossings with roads of the same or higher category, when according to the prescribed categorization criteria they do not reach a higher category. Currently, the Road Directorate of the Sarajevo Canton manages about 350 km of roads in the Sarajevo Canton.
