Hydrogeological map of Bosnia and Herzegovina
Bosnia and Herzegovina (bih)

The hydrogeological map of Bosnia and Herzegovina is a specific type of dedicated map that shows the quantity, composition, chemical properties, location, dimensions, geological characteristics, objects and phenomena of groundwater. According to the scale, the aforementioned HGK belongs to medium-scale maps, i.e. 1:500,000, and belongs to overview maps. In order to better display the relationships on a map of this scale, special attention has been paid to the hydrogeological categorization of the terrain. All lithological units, a total of 38 types of rocks and rock complexes, are classified into 12 hydrogeological categories according to the type of porosity and the degree of water abundance. Hydrogeological categories of high transmissibility are shown in an intense tone of the appropriate color, so the spatial position of the main aquifers can be easily seen from the map. Due to its visualization, a hydrogeological map can facilitate the presentation of the results of hydrogeological research; therefore, it is an invaluable tool for communication between investors, researchers, water experts, local self-government units and the general public.

QUALITY AND CONFORMANCE

The hydrogeological map of Bosnia and Herzegovina was made in 1980 at a scale of 1:500,000 initially by Geoinžinjering Sarajevo - OOUR Institute for Geotechnics and Hydrogeology - N. Miošić, Institute for Geological Research of the SR of Montenegro, Titograd, OOUR Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology - V. Radulović, Geological Survey of Zagreb - OOUR for Engineering Geology and Hydrogeology, A. Šarin, F. Fritz, K. Donadini, Geological Survey of Skopje - OOUR Institute for Geotechnics and Hydrogeology - G. Kotevski, D. Đuzelkovski, Geological Survey of Ljubljana - TOZD Geology, Geomechanics and Geophysics, F. Drobne, M. Božović, Geozavod Belgrade - OOUR Institute for Hydrogeological and Geotechnical Research - A. Ivković. The unique map was made by: M Komatina and A. Ivković. The professional and technical editorial staff of the Laboratory for Geological Mapping Methods of the RGF, Belgrade - B. Petrović. The authors of the Interpreter of the Hydrogeological Map are M. Komatina, A. Ivković and A. Šarin. The Interpreter was prepared in 1981. This map represents one of the strategic interests of the Federation of Bosnia and Herzegovina because it can be directly used for the preparation of spatial plans of the FBiH as well as lower levels, cantons, municipalities, etc., providing valuable data for planning and design in mining, water management, hydropower, as well as in planning in the areas of land remediation, use and protection of groundwater, water supply, as well as in other areas of spatial planning and environmental protection, education and science. The preparation of this map is mainly based on the synthesis of existing data and the results of previous hydrogeological research. It was created in vector form by the Federal Institute of Geology in accordance with modern software programs for Geographic Information Systems (GIS), and the water objects and characteristics contained in this map are an integral part of the Hydrogeological Database (gdb). The Hydrogeological Map of BiH in raster form was recently published by the Geozavod RS.
