An urban planning permit is an administrative act that confirms that the planned construction is in compliance with the applicable spatial planning documentation, such as a regulatory plan, urban project, subdivision plan and other relevant documents. This act defines key urban planning parameters: land use, location and shape of the construction plot, basic urban planning conditions (number of floors, dimensions of the building, distance from the plot boundaries, access roads and utility infrastructure). An urban planning permit is issued by the competent administrative body – the Ministry or municipal service – depending on the type and importance of the facility. Since 2007, the Sarajevo Canton Development Planning Institute has been maintaining and regularly updating a database of issued urban planning permits in the Sarajevo Canton. Each permit in the database is displayed geometrically as a point, with the following attributes: municipality, cadastral municipality, cadastral parcel, municipality classification code, date of issue, internal Institute code, year of entry into the database. The database is available to administrative bodies (municipalities, ministries, etc.) via the WebCity GIS application, using standardized web services: OGC WMS and OGC WFS. This system enables transparent, efficient and spatially precise insight into issued urban planning permits, thereby facilitating the planning, control and management of spatial development in the Sarajevo Canton.
