The basic geological map presents a summary of the geological composition and tectonics of the terrain of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:300,000. It presents the stratigraphy of the composition of the Phanerozoic (Paleozoic from the Silurian onwards, Mesozoic and Cenozoic) accompanied by tectonics and geological evolution. It includes practically all the current knowledge about the lithofacies development, thickness and distribution of geological elements that make up the geological composition of Bosnia and Herzegovina. It is based mainly on the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 and the interpreters for individual entire and marginal sheets. Also, every significant published work and study, and especially doctoral dissertations written and published in the period from 1960 to 2000, has been taken into account. This map allows for quick access to data on all important issues in the areas of stratigraphy, tectonics and geological evolution of this part of the Dinarides. The tectonic outline of the Dinarides of Bosnia and Herzegovina is defined by the position of: the outer, middle and inner Dinarides.

The author of the geological map of Bosnia and Herzegovina 1:300,000 is Safet Čičić. The map is mainly based on the Basic Geological Map of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 and keys for individual entire and marginal sheets. Likewise, every significant published work and study was consulted, and especially doctoral dissertations written and published in the period from 1960 to 2000. This map and interpreter were published in 2002 and enable quick access to data on all important issues in the fields of stratigraphy, tectonics and geological evolution of this part of the Dinarides.
