The area of natural heritage "Skakavac Waterfall" is located in the northern part of Sarajevo Canton. The total territory includes parts of four administrative municipalities: Stari Grad, Centar, Vogošća and Ilijaš on a total area of 1430.7 ha. It covers the area of the southern slopes of Ozren, the top and the northern slopes of Bukovik hill. The terrain of the covered area is extremely mountainous, for the most part steep and sloping in several directions, characteristically undulating with a deep cut of the Perački potok, which divides the total territory in two parts in its east-west course. The registered geomorphological monuments within the scope are gorges or parts of gorges of watercourses: Babino potok, Peračko potok, Sušica, Stublinsko potok, Jasikovice, and the geomorphological formations Crvena Stijena, Kečina Stijena, Vranjska Stijena and Uževica. The area gained its importance and legal protection primarily on the basis of the key value of the scope represented by the hydrological monument Skakavac waterfall at a height of 98 m. The area is characterized by a great wealth of vegetation species and faunal diversity. The law on the declaration of the wider area of the "Skakavac" waterfall as a Natural Monument ("Official Gazette of the Canton of Sarajevo" number: 11/10) defined the boundaries of its scope, the area was assigned III category according to the International Union for Conservation of Nature (IUCN) - Natural Monument, and in accordance with this, the zoning of the area was carried out, as well as certain protection measures and interventions in the protected area. The area of the Nature Monument "Skakavac Waterfall" is of special importance for the Canton of Sarajevo and is part of the Spatial Plan of the Canton of Sarajevo for the period 2003-2023. ("Official Gazette of the Canton of Sarajevo" number: 26/06, 4/11, 22/17) determined the obligation to prepare a Spatial Plan of the special area of natural heritage "Skakavac Waterfall" ("Official Gazette of the Canton of Sarajevo" number: 32/09, 38/16). Taking into account protection measures, the Spatial Plan defines the purposes of space so that the use of natural values serves the purpose of preserving natural heritage assets, scientific research, environmental education, and recreation and tourism in all seasons of the year.
