Metadata Details: Study of the centrality function of the state capital - Sarajevo

The main task of the Study on the Function of Centrality of the Capital City was to investigate the urban development possibilities of Sarajevo and to determine its development concept based on the changes in the level of centrality functions resulting from its new geopolitical and traffic position. The study is structured in five chapters, as follows: The first chapter provides a cross-section of the findings in the latest theoretical considerations of the subject on the capital, international and regional cities of the world, as well as on globalization processes and global trends. The second chapter deals with the Sarajevo region as a metropolitan area (in the making) and its role in the development possibilities of Sarajevo as a European metropolis. The third chapter deals with the network and system of settlements in the metropolitan zone of Sarajevo. A hierarchical overview of the centers is given with an analysis of the indicators available for the classification of settlement systems. The fourth chapter considers the possibilities of developing transport of all forms and levels as a basis for stimulating development in space, opening up the gravitational possibilities of space towards central places, equalizing the development of the metropolitan zone, its coherence, the influence of the metropolis through development axes on the development of regional centers in BiH and opening the metropolis itself towards the regional environment of Southeast Europe through the construction of the highway on the Vc corridor. The fifth chapter considers the spatial organization of the metropolis and the metropolitan zone of Sarajevo, the functions of the centrality of the capital and their potential distribution in space. The concept of the spatial organization of the narrow metropolitan zone is given as a development model that envisages a highly emphasized concentrated urbanized zone of the metropolis and its inner belt and the so-called "green" environment with a whole series of starting, tourist-oriented settlements.
