Metadata Details: Studies on recycling yards, niches and green islands of Sarajevo Canton

At its 32nd session held on 01.08.2019., the Government of the Sarajevo Canton adopted a Decision approving the Studies on the locations of recycling yards, niches and green islands with their location in the spatial planning documentation and investment plan (hereinafter referred to as the Study) for the area of nine municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton, the preparation of which was determined by the Waste Management Plan of the Sarajevo Canton for the period 2015-2020. ("Official Gazette of the Sarajevo Canton", No. 29/15). The study was prepared by the Institute for Development Planning of the Sarajevo Canton, in cooperation with the Ministry of Physical Planning, Construction and Environmental Protection of the Sarajevo Canton, the municipalities of the Sarajevo Canton and the KJKP "RAD". The aim of the Study was to, based on an analysis of the current state of the municipal waste collection infrastructure and the spatial capabilities of the Sarajevo Canton, offer possible solutions for upgrading the existing infrastructure, which would consist of green islands, recycling yards, bins or containers for a two-line waste collection system, which would ultimately result in the establishment of a selective collection system, reducing the amount of waste for disposal and increasing the level of recycling of all types of waste that can be used. During the preparation of the Study, a digital database was created in GIS software with the exact number and descriptive state of existing waste collection locations, and a proposal for the construction of new infrastructure with bins for selective waste collection, taking into account the available space. An integral part of the Study are tabular and graphical presentations of the Current State and Projections of the Development of Waste Collection Infrastructure, an Investment Plan that establishes the financial framework, priorities and dynamics of implementation of activities for the construction of the planned infrastructure, as well as Technical Guidelines for the Design of Waste Reception Infrastructure, which, based on the general and technical requirements for the construction of infrastructure for selective waste collection, present conceptual solutions for the types of green islands and recycling yards. The adoption of the Study provides guidelines for planning locations for selective municipal waste collection in the process of developing detailed planning documents, for which the provisions of Article 3 of the aforementioned Decisions of the Government of Sarajevo Canton are binding on the Institute for Development Planning of Sarajevo Canton and the municipalities of Sarajevo Canton.
