The area covered by the Regulatory Plan “Alifakovac – Babića Bašća” is located in the northern part of the central city core. In spatial terms, it is defined on the north by the Miljacka River, on the north-east by the protected area “Bendbaša”, on the west by Alifakovac, Megare and Džemala Čelića streets, and on the south-east by Put mladih muslimana (transit) streets. The total area covered is 9.7 ha. The plan envisages the rehabilitation and reconstruction of the existing building stock with a smaller part of the engagement of new spaces for construction. It envisages improving housing standards, reconstruction of existing buildings, more humane construction of smaller floors and more favorable dispersion of social infrastructure capacities for the local community level, while respecting the directions of protection of cultural, historical and natural heritage (Separate Department of the Institute for the Protection of Cultural, Historical and Natural Heritage of the Sarajevo Canton). The goals of spatial planning tend towards reurbanization and spatial rehabilitation respecting the established existing traffic matrix and physical structure with a compact and fragmented structure of existing buildings (including buildings under protection). It is necessary to maintain the existing character of the free areas of the yards of individual buildings with a minimum of interventions or construction. The Commission/Committee for the Preservation of National Monuments of Bosnia and Herzegovina adopted the Decision on the declaration of the Alifakovac Cemetery complex in Sarajevo as a national monument, according to which certain measures for the protection of this site were established, as well as a protective belt that includes neighboring plots (contact area - Podcarina Street). The plan envisages a wider range of interventions on existing buildings in order to rehabilitate the entire area, as well as the protected zone and the formation of physical structures suitable for this environment.
