The Basic Geological Map (OGK) of Bosnia and Herzegovina at a scale of 1:100,000 began in 1961 and was officially completed in 1990. The work on its development was organized within the Geological Institute with headquarters in Iidža. Over 150 geological engineers and geological technicians participated in its implementation. The territory of Bosnia and Herzegovina is divided into sheets at a scale of 1:100,000, namely 23 full sheets (with an area of about 1,400 km) and 24 border sheets (whose area varied depending on the position of the BiH border). The Basic Geological Map was completed for the area of Bosnia and Herzegovina, but the Bosanski Novi sheet was not printed. The utility value of the Basic Geological Map is great. It contains a significant amount of geological information for the preparation of scientific research and applied projects in the field of mineral raw materials research; drinking thermomineral and mineral waters; in the fields of agriculture, forestry, construction and environmental protection. A particularly great contribution of this Map was in the training of professional staff in the field of geology. For the successful development of the Basic Geological Map, stable sources of funding from the state budget (budget), which is a practice throughout the world, were of crucial importance.
