The aim of the Study is to determine the current and comprehensive valorization of cultural, historical and natural heritage and to propose measures for its preservation, protection and use. By preparing this Study, the competent services in the Canton and municipalities have received an up-to-date map and database on the state of natural and architectural heritage in the territory of the Sarajevo Canton, which deserves special treatment in the preparation of development and implementation documents as current and future tasks of spatial planning. In addition to the introduction, annexes and the graphic part, the Study has two chapters: Basics and Planned protection and improvement of cultural, historical and natural heritage. The first part provides general information, historical and urban development of Sarajevo, the system of protection of cultural, historical and natural heritage, and quantification and assessment of the current state. The second part contains: principles of protection, objectives, methodology of heritage valorization, quantification and levels of planned heritage protection, inventory and planned protection measures with a detailed elaboration of cultural, historical and then natural heritage. Then, the integration of the protection of cultural-historical and natural heritage with other functions is discussed, and finally, the spatial distribution and balance of areas are given. The study established a unique register of cultural-historical and natural heritage according to valid legal documents, i.e. European criteria, and the amendment and registration of monuments on the existing list for the area of Sarajevo Canton was carried out. The study used primary and secondary data sources, and a significant amount of field research was carried out (reconnaissance of the terrain and location of individual assets, photography of characteristic buildings, complexes, landscapes, memorials). Also, a significant contribution of the study are the graphic contributions that were made in GIS format, in which the Spatial Plan of Sarajevo Canton for the period from 2003 to 2023 was also prepared.
