Hydrography is a part of hydrology that deals with the study, measurement and description of the physical characteristics of surface waters. The hydrographic representation is combined in the layers watercourses, watercourses of the first order, water bodies and basins of water bodies.
Watercourses
The watercourse layer was obtained in 2013 from the Military Geographical Institute "General Stevan Boskovic", and contains 332,817 segments of all flows recorded on the territory of the Republic of Serbia. This layer has not undergone any changes and has been delivered in its original form.
First-order watercourses
Surface waters on the territory of the Republic of Serbia, according to their importance for water management, are divided into waters of the first order and waters of the second order on the basis of established criteria, namely: position of watercourses in relation to the state border, size and characteristics of watersheds. . from the aspect of water use, water protection and protection against harmful effects of water. The decision on the inventory of first-order waters on the territory of the Republic of Serbia from 2010 determined 259 first-order waters.
Water bodies
The surface water body is the basic unit defined for the purposes of creating the Water Management Plan. The identification of water bodies was done by PWMC "Srbijavode" and PWMC "Vode Vojvodine" for the purposes of drafting the Water Management Plan on the territory of the Republic of Serbia for the period 2021-2027.
Water body basins
Water body basins are areas bordered by water body watersheds. After the identification of water bodies, PWMC "Srbijavode" and PWMC "Vode Vojvodine" made a layer of water body basins.
