The 1st high-accuracy leveling network consists of a set of permanently stabilized and easily accessible fundamental benchmarks. Working benchmarks are classified as main and auxiliary. The working benchmarks are spatially distributed at an average distance of less than 1.5 km in the form of leveling lines between the fundamental benchmarks. During the NVT1 network design phase, the benchmark locations were mostly chosen along major road and railway routes due to the durability and safety of the geodetic marks, as well as from the easy accessibility aspect during leveling measurements. Considering that the network was designed and realized during the existence of the former Socialist Federal Republic of Yugoslavia (SFRJ), NVT1 benchmarks are located also on the territory of the neighboring Western Balkans countries (Montenegro, Bosnia and Herzegovina, Croatia).
