About the Geodata Portal
The Challenge in Western Balkans
In the Western Balkans, there is significant potential for enhanced utilization of geoinformation. However, several challenges currently hinder its full implementation and benefits. Several barriers limit effective data use: users struggle to identify what data exists, where to find it, and how to apply for it. Data management infrastructure is still under development, leaving information scattered across institutions with different standards. Building technical capacity and establishing clear data-sharing frameworks are critical steps.
Our Mission
The GEO-WB6 project addresses these gaps through the establishment of a dedicated Geoinformation Centre. Our mission focuses on:
- Developing human resources for advanced geodata management and analysis
- Building a regional network of geoinformation experts
- Creating standardized frameworks for data sharing and collaboration
Funding and Implementation
GEO-WB6 is funded by the German Federal Ministry of Food and Agriculture (BMEL) and jointly implemented by the Agricultural University of Tirana (AUT) and the Leibniz Institute of Agricultural Development in Transition Economies (IAMO).
